Monday's Memories: Peveril Castle

We left Chatsworth House in perfect driving conditions.  I love the open road.

Who wouldn't want to live here?

We were going to keep driving past the turn-off in the above picture, but we saw a sign for a castle, kept driving for a minute, but then turned around.  What's the point of going on vacation without your children if you aren't going to be spontaneous and take side-trips?

This was definitely our favorite road we drove down in England.  The High Peaks reminded us of pictures of the north of Scotland, and since we weren't making it that far north, this was a nice substitute.  They were beautiful.

The High Peaks were also the perfect place for a castle and a place of safety and defense in medieval times.  We had a nice inclined hike up to the remains of Peveril Castle.

KJ conquered the hill ahead of me while I meandered along taking pictures.

"Little town, it's a quiet village..."
Wrong country, I know.

 Mam Tor

 All that remains

He was locked in the tower by the time I reached the top.

 View from the inside

The inside was open, and my favorite part were the hills behind the castle.  They were steep and rocky, and you could watch the sheep scrambling up and down them.

We got so expert at taking this shot.  James did benefit from this side-trip; we bought him a little catapult, from which we launched the heads of LEGO men for a while.  Is there something wrong with that?
